ICOM IC-7000
Now in may 2010 I was lucky to buy a second hand, "as new" version of this fantastic radio.
In this little radio transceiver you get:
- Full HF 100W transceiver (AM 40W)
- 6m 100W (AM 40W)
- 2m 50W (AM 20W)
- 70cm 35W (AM 14W)
- Analog TV
- Color LCD display, (possible to connect external display)
- 32bit IF DSP
- TX Monitor function
- Multi function hand mike
- Detachable front panel
- Much more...
I was a big fan of the IC-7000 since before it was put on the market. I just didn't like the first reports that was published, from the market, about several construction flaws. Icom did some production adjustments after a while. The radio has become much better in many ways. I'll write more about my own experiences soon.
One thing I have noticed is the receive audio. It cannot reproduce up to 3,6KHz even if the IF filter is set on that bandwidth. This is due to one of the "modifications" Icom has made. (To avoid the 8KHz tone that was to be heard in headphones on the early models.)
Listening to a station transmitting around 4KHz bandwidth, it's not much difrence to hear when changing from 3 to 3,6 Khz IF filter. That sucks.. (In my opinion.)
